Garden Valley Football—Go Wolverines!
GARDEN VALLEY WOLVERINES VS KOOTENAI WARRIORS

By Mike Uhl

The 1A 2 State Quarter Finals will be played in Harrison, Idaho, just north of Coeur d’Alene. It’s about an 8-hour drive. Kootenai High School is located at 13030 E. O’Gara Road in Harrison.

The game will be on Saturday, November 3, at 1:00 p.m. It will match your hometown Wolverines (8-1) against the Red and White Kootenai Warriors. (6-3).

If you are going to the game, remember the 1 o’clock start is in the Pacific Time Zone—this will be 2 o’clock our time.

The weather report for the game is projected to be Partly Sunny, high around 55 degrees, low 32 degrees...maybe rain.

Garden Valley Wolverines are led by two-year Head Coach, and “Coach of the Year” for District 2, Jason Yearsley, along with assistant coaches, Jason VanDyk and Jim Dovel. They turned around a program that was 1-8 last year.

At the start of the season, The Coaches Poll picked GV fifth out of seven. The media projection was sixth. With only three seniors on the team, this is an amazing accomplishment.

Garden Valley’s senior captains are #12 Kavik “Mad Dog” Fairburn; #4 Lance “Stones” Jones; and #45 Jono “The Law” Lawler. Fellow starters are: #30 David “Big D” Bengoa, #54 Jimmy “Big Jimmy” Dovel, #23 Kit “Stonewall” Fairburn, #22 JD “The Renegade” Fuhriman, #32 Sam “The Bull” Root, #5 Benny “Killer Bee” Updike, and #21 “Frosty” Yearsley.

Role players are: #3 David “Little D” Bengoa, #20 Avery Brantner, #65 Robey Briggs, #16 Brandon Eszlinger, #28 Mack Fetters, #50 Austin “Road Block” Fields, #6 Daniel “Green Shoes” Flaherty, #56 Zack Sanders, #42 Jesse Tussing, and #34 Anthony Zang.

KOOTENAI WARRIORS (6-3) are the North Star Conference champions. They won the conference even with playing two teams twice. They are the 12th best team in the state in 1A Division 2. All their games have been at 7 p.m.

They are led by ninth-year Head Coach, Doug Napierala, with a record of (49-31). He brings twenty players to Saturday’s contest. His top players are: QB Marshall Willms, his brother Morgan, and Simon Desautel.

Their last game was on the road at Clark Fork, which they won 64-14, in the third quarter. First TD of the game was a run, the second was a pass. 3rd through 9th TDs were runs. They are primarily a running team on TDs. On Extra Point tries, the first 4 were passes to Morgan Willms, all good. The next five were runs. One out of those five runs was good.

This game is one of two 1A Division 2 taking place on Saturday. The other will be Deary (7-2) vs Salmon River (7-2).

GOOD LUCK WOLVERINES!
